The Waikato District Plan zones about 94% of Whatawhata as Rural, with roughly 4% Country Living and 2% Pa zone. Rural zoning brings bigger sections with houses, sheds and farm buildings, so a typical roofing visit here covers more than one roof and more than one long spouting run.
The land has a hill-country character too. An AgResearch hill-country research station was started at Whatawhata in 1949, and NIWA describes exposed parts of the Waikato as very windy. Homes and sheds on higher or open ground take that wind directly, which is why we check fixings, ridge caps and barge flashings closely on every Whatawhata inspection.
Damp was reported in a noticeable share of homes. At the 2023 Census, 13.6% of Whatawhata's occupied dwellings were damp always or sometimes, and 10.6% had visible mould just as often. A roof and gutter inspection will not explain every case, but it can rule a roof leak in or out quickly, and we include it on every free visit.
